Agrifemina celebrates Groenland ladies

Woman celebrated at function (in English)

As a part of Women’s Month 2017, The Western Cape Government – Department of Agriculture chose Elgin Grabouw Country Club as the ideal conference facility to host their annual Agrifemina 2017 function. The event was attended by 120 women employed locally on farms here in the Elgin Valley, Grabouw and Villiersdorp.

The Department holds the Agrifemina event in a different region of the Western Cape on an annual basis to give praise to those women in that area for their wonderful efforts made towards food production and food security. The event is the ideal opportunity to celebrate the achievements and progress of women and the important role women have played and continue to play in South Africa’s society.

The ladies were addressed on a variety of educational topics such as early childhood development and breast cancer.
Joyene Isaacs, Head of Department Agriculture opened the event with a warm welcome to all the ladies. This was followed by an informative discussion surrounding “Financial Fitness”, presented by Melanie Hess – a key Nedbank financial advisor who stressed the importance of “saving money today for a brighter future”.

The Department of Social Development outlined the importance of “early childhood development” and that this “window period” of learning will pave the way for a bright future of a child.
Representatives of Stay Safe (a self-defense training workshop programme for women) demonstrated self-defense techniques which the ladies could apply should they ever find themselves in a dangerous situation. The ladies were left feeling aware and far more confident about their own personal safety.

Also present at the function was FARR (Foundation for Alcohol Related Research) who highlighted the negative impact which alcohol abuse has during pregnancy.
Musical entertainment was provided by none other than local band, The Elginairs Dance Band after which a delicious lunch was served.

Vroue vereer by funksie (in Afrikaans)
