The Sanlam Cape Mile is a one mile (1,6km) open water swimming race that takes place at the Grabouw Country Club’s Eikenhof Dam, giving Western Cape swimmers the chance to participate in a safe, mass participation swim. The dark, pristine waters of the Eikenhof Dam provide the perfect setting for an event which appeals to the curious and competent. The inaugural Sanlam Cape Mile was held in 2015 and was a resounding success, the event has grown from strength to strength over the past three years having a field of over 2 000 swimmers.

Route Descriptions:
Cape Mile Relay

Distance: 1 000m x 4 people

There is a new and exciting new category introduced to The Sanlam Cape Mile! A team of four people can enter the relay category. We encourage families, friends, schools, clubs and corporate teams to enter. The relay consist of a team of 4 swimmers each swimming a lap of 1000m. The start and finish area points of the relay will take place at the race village finish area on the left hand side of the dam.(Out and back swim).
Cape Mile

Distance: 1,6km

Dependant on the dam water levels (to be determined closer to the time) there are two possible routes; a single lap route, and a two lap route.

Option 1 (Two Lap Route):
The start will be located on the right hand side of the Grabouw Country Club on the Eikenhof Dam. Four buoys will demarcate the route which is set to finish on the left hand side of the Grabouw Country Club. The course will be supported by canoeists with medical staff at hand.

Option 2 (Single Lap Route):
The start and finish areas are in the same location, to the left hand side of the Grabouw Country Club on the Eikenhof Dam. Four to five buoys will demarcate the route, which will be supported by canoeists with medical staff at hand.
Cape Mile 500m

Distance: 500m

The start will be located on the right hand side of the Grabouw Country Club on the Eikenhof Dam. Four buoys will demarcate the route which is set to finish on the left hand side of the Grabouw Country Club. The course will be supported by canoeists with medical staff at hand.
